Dr. Neale and the dentists he works with have helped support many good causes both in our immediate community and in the wider world wide community. Some of the programs include:
Start School Smiling
Dr. Neale within the The Edmonton and District Dental Society in 1996 started an annual program called Start School Smiling. Hundreds of participating dentists have since offered children starting school a free examination so that their parents would become aware of any dental problems that their child may have.
Foster Children: Plan (formerly Foster Parents Plan)
We started sponsoring two children in 1993. Diem is a girl in Vietnam and Henry is a boy in Bolivia. They have both since ‘graduated’ from plan and we are now sponsoring Tho, another young girl who is now 11 years old who lives with her two sisters and peasant farmer parents in northern Vietnam. Plan is a well run charitable organization that improves communities that don’t enjoy many of the basic things that we consider to be the necessities of life. The efforts are directed toward clean water, sanitation, health care, nutrition, education and shelter through the sponsorship of children. Their approach is to develop these basic necessities on a self sustaining basis, rather than just providing handouts, which then allows efforts to be subsequently redirected to other areas in need. You can contact Plan at www.plancanada.ca for further information.
Water and Sanitation for a Community in Columbia: Plan
In 2011, part of our donation allowed a community in Columbia to be supplied with a clean water system including latrines and wells, as well as imparting knowledge so residents can manage and care for the system themselves. Our intention is to furnish a community with a system, critical to improved health, that will last and will benefit generations.
Canadian Cancer Foundation
We have donated for many years to further the fight against cancer. The Canadian Cancer Society is leading the way in cancer control to actively prevent, cure or manage cancer. The Canadian Cancer Society takes the role as steward of donor dollars very seriously and makes every effort to allocate these dollars where they will make the most difference in making cancer history. In working to control cancer, we focus our work in 5 areas: research, advocacy, prevention, information and support. More information is available at cancer.ca.
